My First Pro Soccer Game, Eating at Pasillo de Humo and the Beach!
This week has been really nice, even if it had some ups and downs. We officially moved locations for the first time, and the moving itself wasn’t great, but our new place is really cool. I really look forward to spending a week here. We have already been to the beach a bit and it is incredible. The waves are awesome, the sand is nice, the views are beautiful, and it is all just a three-minute walk from our house! Some fun things that we did this week included going to a soccer game and eating at this unique and exciting place called the Pasillo de Humo.
One of my favorite experiences of this week and this trip was going to my first-ever pro soccer game to see the Oaxaca Alebrijes play. When we arrived at the stadium, we noticed how empty it was. We were able to just walk in and get pretty much the best seats in the whole place. We bought dinner from the vendors that were walking around in the stadium selling food and let me tell you, I think that that was some of the best food that I have ever gotten in a sports stadium. The game was exciting, there were some incredible goals, and I even got a jersey, which was super cool. The game ended in a 2 - 2 tie! I will never forget going to this game, especially since it was my first ever professional soccer game.
A super interesting experience that was unique to anything that I have ever seen in the U.S. was eating at the Pasillo de Humo. The Pasillo de Humo used to be a small alleyway in an indoor market, but it has been temporarily moved outdoors for renovation. It now takes up an entire street. As soon as you walk in you are immediately confronted by all of the different stalls trying to sell you their fresh meats. It is hard to see well because of all of the smoke from meat being cooked, and then add on top of the smoke people trying to sell things to you right up in your face. Once we had picked a stall to order meat from, we pointed out some raw meat that they had on display, and they just grabbed it and threw it on a grill. We ordered some tortillas and sat down at a random table. It was so loud, full of people, and just chaotic there. It felt good to be sitting instead of being mixed up in the hustle and bustle. When our meat arrived, we immediately dug right in. It was delicious! All of the different types of meat we ordered, including steak, sausage, and pork, were all cooked perfectly, and they were delicious with the freshly made tortillas. I will always think of sitting in that crowded street, surrounded by so many different noises, and being engulfed in delicious-smelling smoke whenever I sit down at a quiet restaurant.
We are now settling in at our new Airbnb, and even it is super nice. We are about a three-minute walk from the beautiful beaches and delicious restaurants of San Agustinillo on the Pacific coast. The six and a half hour drive winding up and down mountains to get here was not too pleasant (we all felt pretty nauseous the entire time) but we have now made it, and the time we have spent at the beach has been incredible. We all got a little sunburnt on the first day, so we’ll try to be a bit more careful now, but not miss out on all of the fun! I look forward to our next week here, and more updates will be coming soon on all of our exciting adventures in our big worldschooling trip.
